Week 5 12/6/10 – 12/10/10

As we are reading poetry and looking at various parts of poems, can you notice some of the same figurative language in your independent reading? Using your notes from this week, give examples of each of the parts of figurative language we've been discussing.   You may not find all types. If you can’t find any, look at the poem you put on the moodle or the lyrics to your favorite song.  The chart attachment is at the bottom of this page 'Week 5 Blog', use it to set up your blog.

Week 4 11.29.10 - 12.3.10

We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently? Be sure to use complete sentences and EVIDENCE to support your thinking.

In my book ''the truth about forever'', by: Sarah Dessen ,(pg.201) My main character is now just Macy and she has met two friends Kristy and Monica who want to invite Macy to a party with boys but she doesn't want too but her two friends made her go. My reaction to this would be terrified and nervous being alone with 4 boys (pg.203) . If I was in this situation I wouldn't of gone there house in the first place and I would of stayed home instead of sneaking of. What I would do differently is I would brusque my self and leaf the party instead of being there and letting people brusque me.

Respones to question 11/5/10 correction

Yuritzi,
What type of universal theme is it such as Human Nature, How Society acts or reacts, or a Message about Life? Why?
-Esmy =D

Esmy I think the Universal Theme of my old book''THE STONE GODDESS'' by:Minfong Ho,is Human nature, that  many people get separated from other family. I think its human nature to get separated from your family especially this year because of the crises that just past.I think this because many parents got in fights because they didn't or still don't have enough money to own an apartment or a family.
In my book Nakri's family gets separated because  of a war, but when that war ended  they didn't have enough money because of the war ,and the army people took his dad who was the only one who worked in the family,so they had to move to the U.S.A with some friends that his dad knew to keep them save...

10/11/10 -10/15/10 week 8

It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.

I'm finally done with my book ''THE STONE GODDESS''By:Minfong Ho. PLOT, The  plot of my book is about how my main character Nahkri who faces a lot of problems as time passes and tries to forget about all of them exept for one, which is her sister (pg.189) but at the end she just keeps her in her heart and moves on.

SETTING, The setting was first in Cambodia,in a little town (pg.13),then it was in the USA in her apartments. This book took place in the 1990's through the 2000's.

(pg.168) My characters are Nahkri, her mom, his brother, and his other brother. They are all very sad that their dad is away or dead and their sister are dead too.All of them just  go sad through out the story. They are all invariable.

I think the UNIVERSAL THEME is that live isn't easy ,and Nahkri's family  struggles with that a lot and and can't get past that. At the end most of them try to forget but they still remember her in their hearts.

9.27.10 to 10.1.10 week 6

It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books : Who the characters are, what theme is, where and when the story is taking place. In your response, outline the following: plot , setting , antagonist (the bad guy),protagonist (the good guy) and the universal theme. Provide evidence from your book to support your thinking.

I'm almost finished with my book'' THE STONE GODDESS'', By:Minfong Ho.

The plot is that Nakri, Yann , Boran and their mom are starting a new life  in the U.S.

The setting in  there new apartment in the U.S, I don't know when or what time it is.
There isn't a person protagonist wet but the antagonist is the school(p.169).

The protagonist is Yann who is very loquacious,he is so loquacious that he doesn't let his family talk  at  all.

The Universal Theme is that life isn't easy especially to Nakri which lost her sister and dad. It has been really hard for her to forget  them.(p.170)

9.22.10 - 9.24.10 Week 5

In your book, what are some of the ways that your character expresses themselves through their emotions? How do they show love? Anger? Hate? Why is this important to you as a reader?

In my book,''THE STONE GODDESS'', By: Minfong Ho'', my character Nakri is expressing her self in mores of sadness(p.136). She shows me that she is sad because she cries in the book and the author tells me how she moves her body and face to make different emotions(p.139).This is important to me as a reader so I know and understand my character well enough to connect with her.

9.13.10 - 9.17.10: Week 4

It is important to use our observations/knowledge of the world around us to understand and make meaning out of what we read. Thinking about your experience with the writing excursion, how much importance does your author place on how two characters in your book dress/look? How do you know this?

In my book,'' THE STONE  GODDESS'', the author talks mainly about Nakri and Teeda. The author talks about Nakri who is very skinny, for the hard time their passing through, she is very brave and strong. When the author talks about Teeda she talks about her more, she say show she is feeling and how she looks, more than Nakri.

I now this because the author talks about  Teeda more than Nakri  and  even though the book is more about Nakri, when the author  talks about Teeda she talks about her with more feeling, and expression.

9/7/10 yuritzi'book blog.

I'm  reading  ''THE  STONE  GODDESS'' By: Mingfong  Ho

A  connection  I  have  to  my  book  is  when  Nakri  and  Boran  finally  got  with  there  family  again.

I  can  connect  to  this  because   I  once  too  got  back  with  my  hole  family  again.

Another  connection  I  have  is  that  many  people  started  to  take  their  bright cloths  and  clothes  and  started  to  sing  over  the  days, with  out  being  afraid.

I  can  connect  to  this  because  when  I  first  came  here  to  this  school  it  was weird  and  I  was  afraid  to  do  things  because  I  didn't  know  anyone, but not anymore.

9/3/10 yuritzi's book blog

I'm still reading'' THE STONE GODDESS'' By:Minfong Ho
How my character expresses themselves  in the book is  by being strong and depending on a dance that keeps her alive throught  all the bad situations  she sais that when she dances she could get out of it by dancing.
I think its important that the character expresses themselves because then i woudn't know that much about the character.

8/27/10

I'm reading "The stone goddess",by  Minfong Ho.

I think the UNIVERSAL theme is about Government and how they rule their way.

In my book Nakri and her sister Teeda were practiceing the pavilion dance. Her mom was the teacher.
At the end when they finished practicing, they went home once they got to their home the fence door was closed with a lock and their father was inside with their little  brother. His dad pulled them all in locking the gate again.Nakri said ''why the lock?'' and her mother said it was just for safety. But it didn't seem so save to her. That night she heard Bombs falling closer and closer. The next day something terrible happened Nakri heard a big sound it got louder and louder it was.....
