Week 4 4/25/11 - 4/29/11

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in paragraph form, compare and contrast these two characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.
I am reading the book Charlotte Doyle by Avi
Charlotte Doyle
Same
Frankie
She is 13 years old. Pg.3
They are both very wealthy
She 15 days old.
She is a human
They are both girls
She is a monster
Doesn't talk a lot about her parents
Both have parents
Talks a lot about her parents
She is taking place in a ship

She is taking place at her house
She is in the old times I know this because of the book

She is more in the present times
She got out of school
They are both not in school yet
She is going to school
She is nice , Honest an she keeps her promises pg.11

She is spoiled , drama queen, who depends on magazines
Wears Dresses

Has to cover her body up with clothes she doesn't like
Not that bright because she doesn't go to school
Both needed to understand things and they learned it the hard way
She is very smart because her dad downloaded smartitude to her brain

I think I relate more to both of them, I relate to Charlotte because she is 13 years old and so am I ,also because she is human and because I a also nice caring and honest like me. I am like Frankie because I am smart and I am in the present time like her. I am like both of them because they are both girls and because we all have parents.

Week 3: April 18 - April 22, 2011

Week 3 RR? - Understanding my character(s)
(Be sure to include quote and page number!!)
You must use at LEAST 2 quotes from the book.Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:  -1. your main character's personality    - 2. how they act/behave  - 3. what they look like  - 4. how old they are  - 5 what sort of education do you think that they have  - 6 who their friends and family are    - 7 what their financial (money) situation is  - 8 and what their job is (if they have one).

I am still reading The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi. My main Character is Charlotte she is a really brave girl. She is really brave because a man said that she was ''as steady of a girl he ever met”this shows she is brave because when the man said this, Charlotte was climbing to the top of the ship were no one has been before pg.120 . Charlotte is a very happy girl she is always smiling at everyone she is nice, cheerful, and she asks a lot of questions.

I really like her personality she is curious about everything and she knows how to keep her promises .I know this because in pg.11 she said '' I did promise I will give him extra money" she doesn't forget her promises. If she did then they would of beaten the poor man that was asking for the extra money. I would like to have a friend like that. Although  she is a very fancy girl for a girl of 13 years old and I don't like fancy that much, she should also be playing with her friends instead of being locked up in a room on a ship.

My character is not going to school right now,but she did.I know this because on pg.8 she said "being in a ship beats being in  Barrington school". I think that's like a rich school because her families financial in very good I know this because people call Charlotte "Miss Charlotte" like she is very important pg.7. Also because her parents are wealthy enough to have a boat and because when ever Charlotte orders something she gets it.

She has never talked about her parents only her dad on pg.1 where his dad said " to keep a notebook to write her adventures in the ship"so she at least does something educational stuff in the trip. She doesn't have a job yet because she is 13 and I know she is 13 because it said it on page. 46.

Week 2 - April 4 - April 8, 2011

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.

Primarily I have been reading The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi,I have found that answering this question is getting  easier now that I'm almost done with the book.

The cover of this book is very boring, it makes me go to sleep so I really have to think about it.I got my idea from chapter 11. This is what I have come up with so far for my book tittle.
Alternative tittle 1: My Mistake( catch phrase- (It was probably all my fault he died.)
Alternative tittle 2: Why me? (catch phrase- Why of all people do I have to be blamed ?I was just trying help!)

I think I choose tittle number 1.I choose this tittle because I think it goes better with the image in my head. The new cover of my book will have arms pointing at a girl. The arms will show from their elbows up. They will look all nasty and scary like pirate hands pointing their pointer finger at a girl. The girl will be kneeling down in her knees on a boarded floor with a fancy dress on and she will be facing to the floor looking sad and scared. The background will be black, the black will start all light and as it reaches the girl at the corner it will turn darker and darker. The letters of the tittle will be big and really thin so nobody sees her mistake and they will be the color aqua to represent the ocean.

Week 1 - March 17 - 18, 2011

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

The book I'm reading is"The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,"by the author Avi,the publisher is the arrangement with Orchard books, New York. The copy right date was on 1990.The genre of my book is Adventure, I know this because the teacher told me that the genre was in the cover of the book in a little sticker ,she told me because I didn't know were to look for it.

The cover of my book has a girl who I'm pretty sure it is Charlotte Doyle who is wearing a blue dress. She is in a ship and I know this  because you can see it in the background. You could see she is staring out to nowhere and I think she is happy because she is kind of smiling.I think she is happy because she is living the time of her live sailing through the oceans. The cover also has the tittle ,with the letters color red.It also has a award for being a good book on top next to the tittle and it has a little  hook  in  the  top of  the  tittle and  it  said " A spellbinding tale of murder on the high seas". This hook made me more interested in the book.

Right now I have 4 main characters which are Charlotte Doyle who I met on p.7, Zachariah who I met on p.22, and Mr.Hollybrass the first mate and Jaggery the captain who I both met on page. 29. They are right now setting in chapter 5 where Charlotte and the captain are talking and Mr.Hollybrass is east dropping on them and Zachariah is working on the ship. They are all connected to each other some way and I think I almost know why.Right now I think there connection is that they are looking and interested in the "red robins" I think this because when the captain heard that someone had a red robin he got all mad.I think  a red robin is some kind of clue to a treasure, I know this because I read on p.83 that Zachariah new it was a piece of a map to great treasure.

Week 4 11.29.10 - 12.3.10

We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently? Be sure to use complete sentences and EVIDENCE to support your thinking.

In my book ''the truth about forever'', by: Sarah Dessen ,(pg.201) My main character is now just Macy and she has met two friends Kristy and Monica who want to invite Macy to a party with boys but she doesn't want too but her two friends made her go. My reaction to this would be terrified and nervous being alone with 4 boys (pg.203) . If I was in this situation I wouldn't of gone there house in the first place and I would of stayed home instead of sneaking of. What I would do differently is I would brusque my self and leaf the party instead of being there and letting people brusque me.

Respones to question 11/5/10 correction

Yuritzi,
What type of universal theme is it such as Human Nature, How Society acts or reacts, or a Message about Life? Why?
-Esmy =D

Esmy I think the Universal Theme of my old book''THE STONE GODDESS'' by:Minfong Ho,is Human nature, that  many people get separated from other family. I think its human nature to get separated from your family especially this year because of the crises that just past.I think this because many parents got in fights because they didn't or still don't have enough money to own an apartment or a family.
In my book Nakri's family gets separated because  of a war, but when that war ended  they didn't have enough money because of the war ,and the army people took his dad who was the only one who worked in the family,so they had to move to the U.S.A with some friends that his dad knew to keep them save...
